Empowering Learners and Building a Stronger Workforce, Fostering Economic Growth

On April 16th, K-64 and Oakwood Elementary School hosted a career fair for students in Kindergarten through 4th grade. K-64 was honored to be able to partner with Oakwood Elementary to coordinate and conduct the career fair.

Representatives from Lowes Foods in Viewmont, the Hickory Foundation YMCA, Catawba Valley Medical Center, Catawba County Public Library, Piedmont Plastic Surgery and Dermatology, Vanguard Furniture, Hickory Police Department, Hickory Fire Department, Hickory Soup Kitchen, Coldwell Banker, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Foothills Magazine, Hickory Crawdads, and Catawba Valley Community College served as presenters at the event.

During the career fair sessions, the students learned about corporate and skilled-trade careers in Catawba County, the education and training requirements for the jobs, and the importance in every industry of soft skills, such as work ethic, communication, and teamwork.

A special thank you to School Counselor Michele Kubiniec and Principal Terry Ashley for partnering with K-64 to make this event possible for the students of Oakwood Elementary!
